GAPP Participates in Endangered Species Day

This year over 3,000 visitors came to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, to participate in Endangered Species Day.  An annual event that promotes the conservation of animal and plant species through educational outreach. This was the second year that The Greater Atlanta Pollinator Partnership team has participated, along with many other private, public and non-profit groups that promote conservation across Georgia.

The GAPP team was focused on educating the public about three essential things:

1.The threats our native pollinators face

2. The economic importance of  pollinators in our food supply

3. And of course to promote and advocate for more green space, and pollinator gardens in metro Atlanta!

Visitors enjoy the bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) out the front of the garden.

Other organizations also participated in Endangered Species Day, including the US Forest Service, Zoo Atlanta, the Fish and Wildlife Service, Georgia Power, Georgia DNR, Georgia State University, the Atlanta Audubon Society, and more.

With so many vendors there were many fun activities that children and adults could participate in.  Children enjoyed participated in dressing up as a pollinator, and also loved seeing all of the live animals in attendance like the bald eagle above, who comes every year with Georgia Department of Natural Resources!

Be sure to join us next year at Endangered Species Day for more pollinator conservation information and a chance to meet the GAPP team and have any of your Pollinator Garden questions answered!
